Xcel Is Fueling Young Men With Purpose

Jay Thompson, a native of Savannah, Ga remembers a handful of people that fueled his purpose as a husband, father, pastor & coach.  This understanding of mentorship prepared him to begin a new season of his life as Founder and Executive Director of Xcel Strategies, Inc. (a Non-profit organization that kicked off this June in Savannah.)   Jay believes his father, John Thompson was the inspiration behind this life-coaching strategy that brings dreams into focus for young men who have lost parental oversight in life.

Xcel exists to see young men mature into productive individuals through the direction of life-coaching strategies and advisor mentoring  These young men have lost parental oversight through death, divorce, abuse, incarceration or neglect.

A sad but true reality is that on average, 75% of men in prison come from single parent to no parent families.  Jay asks the question, “How do we break this generational curse within families?”  “We normally try to reform the convicted inmate but leave their children with no direction or sense of purpose to function within society.”

Many of us come from broken families or know of somebody that has suffered a parental loss. Jay experienced personally the embarrassment and pain that this loss can bring to a young man’s life.  By God’s grace, He was blessed with a father that chose him to be a part of a family that cared for him and gave him the opportunity to follow his dreams.  His heart is burdened for the fatherless and He believes that God’s heart is as well.  “How do we ever expect our young men to break the generational curse if they are never coached in the disciplines of life and taught to set goals that enable them to chase after their dreams?  Without guidance,  they can make bad decisions and latch on to the first thing that fills this void.  Take a rocket for example: when a rocket has no target to aim at, or no solid foundation to launch from, then it can serve no purpose and become very dangerous.  When fueled with purpose, young men have the ability to accomplish great things and become assets to their community.”   Jay and his team hope to help train and mentor these young men to give back to their community.

This year, Jay  has established a non-profit called Xcel Strategies, Inc. to begin meeting the needs of these young men in Savannah.  The goal of Xcel is to coach young men in the disciplines of life through short term training and connect them to a network of Advisors who will function as long term mentors. This July, they start coaching their first group of young men.  They will go through a series of “training sessions” with coaches who will cover areas such as: goal setting, finances/budgeting, leadership, time management, relationships etc.  After which they gain access to a network of Advisors (local Businessmen) to help guide them in their future goals.
